About

Hello!  My name is Kim and I am a structural engineer.  I am an architectural engineering alumni from the Pennsylvania State University.  Currently, I work at an AE firm in Central Pennsylvania where I design new structures and retrofit existing buildings.  Through this work, I have been exposed to many interesting projects needing specialty products and construction methods to complete to the satisfaction of the client.  The research I have done to find and work with these new products is what gave me the idea for this blog.  I want to start a place to share stories and information about new building products and construction technologies.  I hope that this information will be helpful and that others will feel free to share their experiences with building products and technologies here as well.

Through my work experience I have become interested in creative problem solving, Building Information Modeling (BIM), Sustainability, building forensics, and Social Media.  I hope to explore all these topics and more.  I am also involved in many local organizations to support these interests including local chapters of USGBC and the Revit User’s Group, and I volunteer for an Engineer’s Week competition for middle school students called Future City.  Recently, I have started giving presentations with another PSU AE alumni to other engineers on the uses of Social Media for Networking.

In my spare time, I like to travel, try new breweries, kayak, and sing.  I just got back from a trip to Europe that included a stop in London, Zurich, and then Munich for Oktoberfest.  I like to constantly learn, so previously, I have taken golf lessons, and I still would like to take horseback riding lessons and try welding.  Recently, I have started training for a Cerebrun and I am learning how to cook healthier (and hopefully tastier) food.

If you would like to contact me, please feel free to email innovatechbuild@gmail.com.
